When you have the chance to talk to a genuine rock legend, what should you ask him about? Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull has had a career spanning almost six decades. And it’s still going. I knew there was no way we could cover any significant amount of ground in the little time that we had together. So instead we just had a chat.
We talked about colonoscopies, about how a flute actually works, why it can be tricky to play music with artists from different cultures, about Ravi Shankar’s, let’s say, voracious romantic appetite, and why Ian never wanted to play the blues. And just when the pr people were about ready to just drag him out of the room to get him to the next interview we got into the difficulties of making holiday plans with your significant other. I guess the only thing we didn’t talk about was his new album that has just come out. But I’m assuming you already know all about that anyway.
